Thank you Colorado!

We are having a great time on RE-AMPLIFY Colorado to California tour. Last week we played to wonderful crowds in Boulder and Denver with Blue King Brown; then we headed to the mountain towns. There were a few thousand happy dancing people during our outdoor shows in Steamboat Springs and Vail! What could be better than playing free outdoor shows in Colorado….playing them in March during snowstorms!

New JBB album out March 3rd “RE-AMPLIFY”

EASY STAR RECORDS TO RELEASE RE-AMPLIFY BY JOHN BROWN’S BODY

The ep features 6 remixes from AMPLIFY and a live track that was recorded during our fall tour with Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad at the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins, CO.

RE-AMPLIFY will debut exclusively on iTunes March 3rd and then a full release on March 17th. You can pre-order the record, see the album artwork, and pick up a new JBB shirt inspired by one of our most popular tour posters here: PRE ORDER RE-AMPLIFY

We have a diverse group of producers and artists on the record from all over the world. The story of this ep is every bit as interesting and inspiring as the music itself. We will start putting together some of our experience working with these wonderful people and let you know more about how this project took off in the coming weeks. We will be posting many of the songs soon.

The producers involved on RE-AMPLIFY include:

Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo: guitarist from the Gold Record Certified Gym Class Heroes.
Tommie Sunshine: American rave legend and remixer of songs by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, Panic! At The Disco, Good Charlotte and others.
GoldieLocks: up-and-coming artist/producer from the UK, recently nominated for DJ Mag Best British Breakthrough Producer and featured in a photo spread in Maxim.
Dubmatix: one of Canada’s best known reggae producers, recently nominated for a Juno.
Blue King Brown: Australian reggae/afro-beat masters, of whom Carlos Santana said, “…my favorite band right now”.
Wrongtom: London DJ who has remixed Hard-Fi, Lily Allen and Roots Manuva.

“RE-AMPLIFY takes the Future Roots sound we achieved on AMPLIFY even further into directions we might never have gone on our own,” says drummer Tommy Benedetti. “It’s been exciting hearing our songs in other producers’ hands. We enjoyed Dubmatix’s version of ‘The Gold’ so much, we are going to start playing it that way live. Then we bring it full circle to the early JBB sound by ending the record with a new roots track we’ve been having fun playing on the road.”

MORE NEWS:

We are hitting the road hard starting next month with Blue King Brown for 8 shows in Colorado and the West Coast, and then we join SOJA for 7 dates in the East Coast including some of our most anticipated concerts in Ithaca and Boston!

Be well and we hope to see you all soon.

We’re off now for a little over a month. Nate is in India seeking enlightenment and the last known location of his yoga-master girlfriend. Tommy will be playing and recording with Dub Apocalypse. Scott is off to New Orleans to play Mardi Gras. Elliot and Matt have some Black Castle gigs. Kalex (Kal and Alex) will be Rubblebucketing and I’ll be chilling with the family, chipping away at a trip-hop record and trying to make some money.

01/18 Sunday, East Burke, VT

Burke Mountain is a small ski hill a few hours southeast of Burlington. We had a leisurely morning in Burlington chilling with GPGDS. Around 1:00 we got in the van leaving ourselves plenty of time to get to the gig. Around Montpelier the roads were getting a little slippery. There were huge embankments of snow at the edges of the road that created a strange sense of safety. That is providing, of course, that there is no oncoming traffic should you lose control.

The ride was scenic and we took it slowly. Elliot has a stellar driving record but everybody makes mistakes. About 15 minutes from East Burke we pulled into a gas station. While attempting to leave, Elliot accidentally backed into one of those lower case “n” shaped pump protectors made of concrete in rigid pipe. The “n” got wedged between the right wheel of our trailer and the trailer itself. The axle and the tire were ruined. That was obvious even to the mechanically impaired but I’m sure there was more damage. Our problem now was getting our equipment to the gig. Luckily Alex brought the brand new Rubblebucket van on this particular weekend. Matt and Aaron from GPGDS drove it to the mountain early to get some skiing in. While waiting for them to arrive we ripped out the seats of our van and put our equipment in. We stowed the bench seats in our crippled trailer which, a short while later, was dragged onto a flatbed. The woman that drove the flatbed was a colorful local that I think could have handily kicked all of our asses.

When we finally reached the mountain the load-in was up three flights of stairs. (more…)
